Substance Painter Workflows

In this tutorial we are going to be tackling how to use Substance Painter. That might sound like an easy proposition but Substance is a huge machine capable of almost anything… but getting that huge machine to bend to your will takes some understanding. And that’s really the crux of working inside of Substance Painter is understanding how the developers made an interface to work with a program that is really so powerful that its mind boggling. So that right there is what this tutorial is about. I’m hopefully going to preset to you how to understand and use Substance Painter, and then to take the whole concept one step further…how to manipulate it as you want to.

I’m going to be presenting you with information that is logically linked, one snippet leads into the next. And as you see how each idea builds upon the next you’re going to be able to understand Painter in your own mind in a way that you’ll be able to manipulate it as you like.

We are going to be learning a huge eco-system and how each part plays a role to deliver us pure oxygen. And once you really start to understand and work with Substance it’s going to feel like pure oxygen!

I’ve also included the grenade obj file for you to follow along with. I think this is a perfect asset to hone your Substance skills with as it has hard edges as well as smooth shapes and lots of great interesting detail.

But wait there’s more! I’ve also included my Substance Painter export preset. This preset is designed specifically to use inside of Daz Studio.
