As the hereditary leaders of the Japanese military forces, the Shoguns were feared and well respected in their land. The Gate of the Shogun for Iyeyasu's Tomb brings a simple and elegant style to the building, and though it has fallen into some disrepair, the building retains a feel of austerity and power.
