It was Independence Day, Mexican Independence Day, September 16. Not the first one, although I was around for that too. No, this was last year, 1957. I was going down to Malas Flores with the King, El Rey Calavera. He wanted to celebrate El Grito de Independencia in his little one-horse hometown. Oh, I kid the King, I like Malas Flores, but then again, I like shrapnel.Anyway, even after 150 years, you never know what to wear to these things. I needed something that would really say freedom and independence, but with a little, um, restraint. Then, in a tiny store in Nogales, I found this amazing little corset.
The label had a single name: hongyu.
Well, I knew it would fit like a glove before I even put it on. Muchas gracias, Seor hongyu. Now, boom! Let freedom ring!
