The Skinny man, also known as the Slender Man and Slim mMn, is a dark supernatural fictional character who lives in the woods and preys on children. Depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall humanoid with a featureless head and face and wearing a black suit, he has a unique spooky appearance. Sometimes he’s also depicted with tentacles. He was born on the internet, quickly became part of a growing mythos, and became a horrifying phenomenon when his existence became rooted in reality.
In 2014, he inspired fear across the country after some of his fans were connected to violent acts, particularly a near-fatal stabbing of a 12-year-old girl in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
On May 31, 2014, two 12-year-old girls lured a 12-year-old classmate into the woods late at night. They held her down and stabbed her nineteen times. When questioned later by authorities, they claimed that they’d wished to commit a murder as a first step to becoming proxies for the Slender Man, having read about it online. After the perpetrators left the scene, the victim crawled out of the woods to a roadway. A passing cyclist alerted authorities, and the victim survived the attack. Both attackers have been diagnosed with mental illnesses but have also been charged as adults and are each facing up to 65 years in prison. One of the girls reportedly said Slender Man watches her, can read minds, and could teleport.
Several other violent crimes and suicides have been attributed to this mythological character. In June 2014, a 13-year-old had attacked her mother with a knife, and had written macabre fiction, some involving the Slender Man, whom the mother said motivated the attack.
So this character is a dark figure indeed and inspires sheer horror.
